Homeschooling

We have been homeschooling sixteen years and counting. Our two eldest were homeschooled K-12 and now are halfway through college. Our two younger children continue on with this unusual form of education. We have six more years before the youngest heads off to college. Homeschooling has been wonderful, hard, exciting, fulfilling, exhausting and family enchancing. It's not something I would recommend for everyone. However, for us, it's been a journey well worth taking.

I wouldn't have ever attempted it, but I have delighted in watching you and your family in this process. I haven't met very many kids as well-rounded and as well-adjusted as the Clonts Kids. Or as interesting. It's worked for you guys--and worked very well.

We're finishing our 17th year this spring, and will have 8 more to go if my youngest stays home throughout high school. What I'm amazed about it how much it has changed for us nover the years. I don't homeschool like I did 10 years ago, that's for sure. It's been a "long and winding road" and not always a smooth one, for sure! I'm not even sure I'm doing it very well at the moment. But overall, it's been an adventure I wouldn't have missed for anything.

I'm glad we've shared some of that journey together...even "virtually."

I really miss seeing everyone during the day but I don't miss the stress and worry over what to teach them and whether or not I am doing a good job or arguing with them to do thier work.

Your homeschool journey has always sounded like a peaceful, enjoyable one. I am happy that you've been able to continue to do it without burning out like I did.

Thanks, Sheila and Donetta.

Carrie, things sure have changed. I remember when I wouldn't let me kids go in the front yard during "school hours" and all the questions I got when I was in the grocery store(during school hours) with the kids. Now no one blinks when they are with me. ;-)

Dalissa, I do understand the stress and worry. I've had my share of it too.

Homeschooling was the main reason we moved to Floyd. After we did it for a few years, my son's went to the Blue Mountain School, which was started by homeschooling parents. Both started public around the 6th grade. Did a little of all of it.
